Why a company to support the farmers?
Cambodia is a developing country. Ranked 129th out of 177 developing countries by the United Nations Human Development Index, the Cambodian government does not have the means support its farmers alone. The involvement of non-governmental organizations is therefore necessary.
Long-term support is required for agro-business development. In the medium term, Cambodian farmers will not be able to reach the necessary organizational level or acquire the business expertise to promote and sell their products on international markets.
A traditional 3 to 5 year development project approach is therefore not enough to guarantee sustainability. A sustainable support structure is necessary in order to guarantee the continuity in the development.
FarmLink’s founders believe that the durability of a support structure is based on its human and financial sustainability. A company allows us to guarantee this by freeing ourselves from the vagaries of constant fundraising. Furthermore, our existence is independent of the funds collected for the farmers. All of these funds can therefore be put to work for the farmers without incurring our management overheads.
